Notre Dame - Roman Bershadsky / Guillaume Pascual
Verse 1:
The cross without Jesus
The heart without a soul
Old gods of all religions
Have mercy on us all
The spire is burning… The god is dead, the halo’s gone, there’s no return.
Apocalyptic visions,
Four horsemen riding on
Collective indecisions
Are going to damn us all
The spire is burning… To all our questions quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
Bridge:
Paris, la ville Lumière
tombeau des erudits
semblant de Paradis
perdue dans tes prières
Chorus:
Two thousand years have made us who we are
Yet we've embraced the great unlearning.
The ashes fall upon the ancient Europe of my dreams.
The Notre Dame is burning.
Verse 2:
Chorus
Two thousand years have made us who we are
Yet we've embraced the great unlearning.
The ashes fall upon the ancient Europe of my dreams.
The Notre Dame is burning.
It burned!
Cold Rain - Roman Bershadsky
Verse 1:
She's walking down the empty street.
Her heels are clicking to the beat.
And in her eyes I see the desperation she so cleverly conceals.
He's riding subway downtown,
His life is going round and round.
And in his eyes I see the emptiness of faking endless pointless smiles.
Chorus:
Cold cold rain,
It washes tears away.
It puts the veil of mercy on your face.
It grants forgiveness for your sins.
The gracious rain.
Verse 2:
To please the crowd they faked a wed.
Done proper rituals in bed.
But in their eyes I see the misery they never shared with anyone.
I try so hard not to be found,
I scream when nobody's around.
And in my eyes you'll see yourself but never say a word and just keep walking in the rain.
It's 7:05 in the morning
Another day has just begun
Another cup of tasteless coffee
Another drive in a traffic jam
Blurry stream of happy faces,
With empty eyes, robotic smiles and shallow thoughts
Subtle cage of familiar places
I often wonder what's the meaning of it all
The door is open, the way is clear, come and let me out!
Chorus:
Carpe diem. Seize the day! Eh-eh-eh-hey
Carpe diem. Seize the day! Eh-eh-eh-hey
Carpe diem. Seize the day!
Verse 2
Barely going through the motions
Seeking guidance from a TV screen
Maintaining semblance of a of meaningful existence
My muse is nowhere to be seen
In some rare and fleeting moments
I feel like something truly great is passing by
If I could reach and grab and never let it go
Life wouldn't leave me at the curb where demons die
The door is open, the way is clear, come and let me out!
Chorus…
Verse 3
My soul - a scene of epic battle
Routine and apathy take over zest and spite
Creative sparks are being herded in like cattle
The art and freedom are besieged and losing ground
The time has come to rise, to love and to break free
To take the upper hand in everlasting fight
To realize that destinations do not matter
What gives life meaning are the journeys near and far
Nobody’s coming, it’s all on me, I am breaking out!
Chorus…
Split - Zach Dacian
Verse 1
Wake up little man; I don’t know where I stand,
I can’t find my way out, really need a helping hand!
Gotta get a grip on things, I don’t run this show no more,
Everything is too confusing and broken to the core!
Verse 2
Getting hard to curb my temper, there’s no cause to this effect,
I've got nothing to account for my anger and contempt!
Sunken deep is my aversion, a silent launching pad,
Lighting (stop instruments)up like kerosene, all that hate just drives me mad!
Bridge 1:
(No, no, no, no) Everything is so intense, I can’t make it on my own!
(No, no, no, no) Everything is so extreme, I can’t bear it all alone!
Chorus:
Little brother bail me out, I believe I’m going down!
Little brother pull me up cause I know I’m gonna drown!
Little brother I’m so lost, I am hurt and I’m alone,
And I feel I don’t belong: I am just a rolling stone!
Verse 3
What is wrong with my perception, is it me who breaks away?
Am I just another nutcase in a state of disarray?
Gotta teach me how to stop this disease that makes me sick,
I am begging you to help me cause you’re real and I’m a freak!
Bridge 2:
(No, no, no, no) Little man please stay with me, I'm a mess but you can see
(No, no, no, no) My inevitable slip heading under, six feet deep!
Chorus:
Little brother bail me out, I believe I’m going down!
Little brother pull me up cause I know I’m gonna drown!
Little brother I’m so lost, I am hurt and I’m alone
And I feel I don’t belong: I am just a rolling stone!
I’m a guy in search of meaning in the tragedy of life,
Like a lobster in a rough seas, like a prisoner in GULAG.
I’ve been showered with solutions, easy fixes, feel-good vibes.
Freedom doesn’t give you meaning, niceness doesn’t make you wise.
We delay gratification, seeking lambs to sacrifice.
We don’t need no education, not the one that’s based on lies.
Social justice choir is preaching, all politically correct,
Resurrected Marxist teachings that assault my intellect.
Chorus
I clean my room and pet a cat, before I criticize the world.
I stand up straight, my shoulders back, and slowly learn to tell the truth,
Or at the very least don’t lie, and don’t believe the lies I’m told.
Responsible for my own life, and guided by eternal youth
Of archetypes that crystallized the wisdom of the universe,
I follow blessing in disguise …. that’s both a blessing and a curse... (riff)
Verse 2
So you say, there is no meaning. It’s your choice. Good luck with that!
Everything you ever do really matters in the end.
We are all in search of something, rarely knowing what we seek.
We’ve long lost our moral compass, without an aim we’re getting weak.
Come on, Bucko! Get your bearing, stand your ground, clean your room!
‘Cause the way the world is heading we are getting nowhere soon.
Angry mobs enjoy destroying anyone who disagrees.
The only way to make world better is to start with your own mess.
Chorus 2
There was one ring to rule them all, two deadly wars, three musketeers,
Four riders of apocalypse, five, six or seven mortal sins,
Eight music tracks, nine feline lives and Ten Commandments no one knows.
And now I have Twelve Rules for Life and as I learn that number grows.
An antidote to suffering! Chaotic void, I’m ready now…
I have the new and shining “why” … so I could bear most any “how”.
Verse 3
I don’t know how to fix the world, don’t have the arrogance to try
But in my life I’ve learned enough to see that everybody lies
That easy fixes never work and simple explanations fail.
For every lie there’s price to pay, but truth’s a heavy cross to bear.
Come on, Bucko! Slay a dragon! Sort yourself out, show no remorse!
Say the truth no matter what, the alternative is worse.
Accept the burden, raise the kids so teachers could not poison them.
You’ll never know if God exists so choose to act as if there’s one.
Chorus 3
I clean my room and pet a cat, before I criticize the world.
I stand up straight, my shoulders back, and slowly learn to tell the truth,
Or at the very least don’t lie, and that’s how this old story goes.
And so I have Twelve Rules for Life and as I learn that number grows.
An antidote to suffering! Chaotic void, I’m ready now…
I have the new and shining “why” … so I could bear most any “how”.
